We cannot deny that we are contending with issues that are causing the very foundation of our country to crumble, there is so much violence, corruption, fear and hatred in the hearts of those around us.

With all the things that are going on in our country today, it’s easy to lose trust and hope, even doubt that things in our country will change., remember, Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. He is eternally unchanging and ever-faithful no matter the circumstances.

In the face of all of this, it’s important that we pray of our nation, president and all those in government leaders who are in the places to make change happen. As followers of Christ, we are to pray, intercede and give thanks for our leaders (1 Timothy 2:1-3).

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good and pleases God our Savior.” – 1 Timothy 2:1-3

May the scriptures and prayer points below provide encouragement and comfort. May our prayers for our leaders and nation be answered in Jesus name. (Amen)

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever. – Psalm 107:1

Worship the Lord, for He is worthy of our praise. Our God is good, compassionate, and loving in every season. Give Him all adoration and thanksgiving.

Prayer for Mercy

It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.Lamentations 3:22

Father, we thank You because it is of Your mercies that we have not been consumed by the perils happening all around us. We are grateful.

Lord, we pray that Your mercy will prevail over Nigeria in Jesus name. Let Your mercy speak for us!

Prayer for our Leaders

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My loving eye on youPsalm 32:8

We pray that our President and leaders will honour You and reverence You as the One and only True God. We ask that You pour out Your Spirit on this nation and our leaders. We ask that Oh Lord, that You humble our hearts and that of our leaders so that we will walk in Your ways and be filled with gratitude.

We pray for our leaders—our President, Vice President, all the Cabinet and everyone in authority.   To receive divine wisdom, to act in obedience to that wisdom and that grace will be given unto them.

Prayer for our Nation’s Economy

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.Ephesians 6:12

We pray for the economy of our nation. We pray for the unemployed and vulnerable. We pray that the economy will be turned around, and everyone that wants a job will find a job and that we will be prosperous as a whole—as a nation—to continue to carry the Gospel around the world.

In the name of Jesus, we decree speedy judgement against every force resisting the economic growth and development of our nations

Prayer for our Nation’s Peace

Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.Jeremiah 29:7 –

Lord, we thank you for granting us peace by all means in Nigeria up till now. We ask that You grant us the ability as nations to follow after the things which make for peace, and things which cause us to build up one another as nations. Lord may your peace rule in the hearts of men all over the world, let it mount guard over hearts and minds in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Lord, we ask that You remove hatred and contentions from the hearts of men in our nation, cause Your love to reign in the hearts of all Nigerians.

For the Gospel in Nigeria

Lord, we ask that You raise more labourers of the gospel within our nations, may the good news we deliver enrich the poor in spirit, heal the brokenhearted, deliver the captives, bring recovery of sight to the blind and set at liberty them that are bruised.

Lord open the minds of unbelievers in Nigeria and all over the world to see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, Who is the image and likeness of God.

These are but a few prayer pointers that we have raised, continue to pray and intercede for Nigeria. Though we may be living in dark times, we have hope in Christ. He is our strength and Light – He will heal us.
